Really annoyed at a combination of Chromium and Safari issues right now.
Safari doesn't have SVG favicon support yet and Chromium won't use an SVG favicon if there's an ICO favicon defined.
Need Chromium to use the SVG favicon so we can extend it to change based on dark mode.

Browsers are so fucking annoying.
New thing to be annoyed with btw, the "grouped tabs" on mobile chrome cover up modals, behaves kinda like the keyboard on iOS.

It's static HTML. It's possible that serving a rel="icon" link via a Link header works so conditionally serving a header could be a viable option. Could make the legacy favicon.ico into the one that's served conditionally. It's painful since I don't have access to Safari to test.
