Does GIMP no longer have a way to edit text layer contents out-of-line? The in-image editor does not work right with multilingual input 😡😡😡 and it looks like the old edit dialog was removed..

Try Krita instead of GIMP. It's supposedly a painting program but I find it to be much more usable for general purpose image manipulation. I think the way it handles editing text works the way you want.

I want to try it sometime but last I looked my distro didn't have enough of the deps packaged to make it easy to build or something like that. I rather dislike GIMP (for the stubbornness about the name among other more technical offenses) but it's mostly what I want here.
