I saw a photo of the Toronto city hall earlier attached to a news story about politics and I was like... damn... I wanna like... go to the plaza in front of the Toronto city hall and like... walk... in a circle.

The slightly embarrassing thing here is I like roller skating but I don't do so well at ice skating. I own my own roller skates!
Maybe now I'm in canada I should get used to ice skating. I can't seem to find anywhere to roller skate around here that isn't like past Mississauga

In the summer, the skating rinks are open a lot of the time to people doing random things.
toronto.ca/data/parks/prd was basically my backyard growing up since it's just across a lane from the actual backyard at my dad's house.
Used to play ball hockey in that skating rink.

Oh! So like you mean the ice rinks are paved over in the summer?
What kind of surface is it, just normal concrete?

Yes, it's concrete with some magical system of cooling it down underneath. They make the ice surface themselves and regularly clean it with a Zamboni. I have fond memories of playing the massive piles of snow they dump outside the skating rink basically in the off-leash dog area.

So they're used for roller skating, ball hockey, etc. in the summer. That's probably why you can't find places to roller skate. I've seen people roller skating all the time in that skating rink and there are a lot of other ones around everywhere.

You'd just need to figure out the schedule to know when it's booked for actual events vs. free for anyone to use.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Ph is the square outside New City Hall and in the main Wikipedia picture the pool is drained for some reason so you can see the surface. That's turned into a pool in the summer but most skating rinks are basically hockey rinks and used for ball hockey, etc.
