Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 are the current generation devices. Pixel 5 has a slightly bigger battery, dust/waterproofing, much fancier screen, wireless charging. Pixel 4a is a previous generation device with an older generation SoC and older LTS kernel branch.

More accurate naming if it was based on technical reality instead of marketing decisions: Pixel 3a is more like the "Pixel 3.5a". Pixel 4a is more like the "Pixel 4.5a". Pixel 4a (5G) is more like the "Pixel 5a". The upcoming Pixel 5a is more like the "Pixel 5.5a".
