Copperhead was raiding our channel again for hours while I was asleep. I just woke up and I'm helping the moderators who have been busy dealing with it.
The Matrix room often has to be closed to new users joining due to these raids. Please try using IRC if you're unable to join.

I really don't like closing the room to new users but I don't see another way to deal with it. It causes a lot of harm to our community either way.
If there's a way to disable inline images in a Matrix room let me know. Need some help from matrix.org admins too.

we're taking a look (although we have limited bandwidth to help moderate arbitrary rooms in Matrix). the correct solution here will almost certainly be to run a mjolnir (matrix.org/docs/guides/mo)

The matrix.org IRC bridge bot currently has admin in #grapheneos-offtopic:matrix.org since it was created based on the standard bridged room to Freenode. I need the matrix.org admins to give me (:matrix.org) admin there.

It would also be amazing if shipping github.com/matrix-org/mat could be prioritized.
It's causing a lot of issues for us. Kicking big batches of users automatically for lurking is shrinking our community and people think we've decided to kick them and get mad at us about it.

I'm now an administrator in #grapheneos-offtopic:matrix.org so that part is handled. Would be amazing to get that bridge improvement deployed. It's awful for any communities using IRC bridge because it basically forbids lurking or not actively posting for a while.
the idler fix isn't just blocked on deployment but a bunch of other performance work (we tried to roll it out but had to roll it back until perf was tuned). it's on our radar.

By the way, the IRC bridge is broken for me (:matrix.org) and no longer joins on the IRC channel so people can't see messages I send via Matrix. I'm not really sure what happened to it. It doesn't seem that it can connect anymore. Doesn't respond to !nick.
