I would agree if it were an individual who swapped the location of buttons in a despised UI redo. But someone who sabotaged public safety is different. And the problem is not any current policy but that the individual is in a place to cause harm again.

As to what this person will do in the future, I don’t know. My view is that when you get caught being associated with an effort to tamper with the US the food supply, you shouldn’t be running a major part of the industrial food distribution network.

There were other people involved in this becoming a standard. Many of them didn't work for the NSA. Some of them knew about the potential for it being used as a backdoor and others didn't. Is there evidence that she was a willing participant in trying to backdoor cryptography?

The truth is we’ll never know. Maybe a very senior person at the NSA put their time and reputation into doing a thing that was clearly malicious, but they themselves were a patsy and others manipulated them. All I can tell you is that Salter was not some intern.
