what kinda drugs are the chromebook people on. who thinks this is a reasonable flashing procedure. (it doesn't work with the device i have and i've spent a hour so far figuring out why)
Q4 is a transistor in WLCSP, because you must suffer not only while flashing it (exactly once, you can enter DFU mode via software later on) but -also- while assembling it.
this design is like a crash course in making the least accessible OSHW you can possibly imagine
this is kind of cute but it would be a lot more cute if not for the preceding frustration
ah well. i went with an OSHW device that had some serious flaws because i knew we could fix them, and we'll just get onto that now
having used the software for 15 minutes, i must say this is an absolutely phenomenal level of jank for something that google has literal total top-down control over
the way the interface for the Chromebook PD sniffer (https://chromium.org/chromium-os/twinkie…) works is that it busy loops sending the devices console commands over USB serial. which mostly returns ZLPs. this pegs a core even if you have no PD traffic at all
power management on AC still matters for two reasons:
- it determines how quickly the laptop charges
- it affects how hot the goddamn thing gets
(in my laptop, the hottest chip without active cooling dissipates to the palmrest, exactly where my palm goes. brilliant move)
