Censorship of financial transactions and denial of access to banking is certainly an issue in the US. Surveillance of financial transactions and leaks of private financial information are concerns for people not doing anything criminal. Criminal also hardly implies unethical.

Do you think immigrants to the US who didn't come legally should be mass deported? Do you think sex work should be criminalized? What about drug use? How about surveillance of people based on their political activism? Lack of financial privacy is lack of privacy as a whole.
