Have you looked at criu.org/Main_Page? Have a feeling you're asking for less than you actually want.

You can even migrate a process (or container) across machines with this within certain constraints. I think it's a bit insane for production usage, especially across kernel versions, but I'm guessing you want this kind of functionality for debugging / inspection of processes.
