gist.github.com/thestinger/18d I use the standard up-line-or-history-beginning-search-backward and down-line-or-history-beginning-search-forward for my arrow key bindings. It searches for other strings with a matching prefix. Never had any issues with it.

I strongly recommend ditching history-substring-search and just using zsh-autocomplete's live history search feature instead. 😉 github.com/marlonrichert/
