Is it a Pixel 2 (non-XL)? It has a metal back, unlike later generations using a glass (3, 3 XL, 4, 4 XL) or plastic (3a, 4a) back. It makes radio reception more difficult. Try bridging the gaps across the metal bezel with a conductor and see what it does to reception.

If you look at a tear down video, you might be able to figure out where the antennas are attached to the bezel. I was curious about the Pixel 5 and just watched youtu.be/PPvlSHyok68 to see how they're doing wireless charging and antennas after going back to the metal back.

They use different parts of the bezel for different antennas and I no clue how it's setup so I'm not really sure the best way to test it. Quite possible that if you have a strong signal it just doesn't matter that much anyway. *shrug*
