What's the alternative, a monopoly by the largest advertising company on the planet?

Brave, Opera, tbh I've been using Edge for a month, its not terrible, its not the best but at least my ram usage isn't 12 gigs

I mean Edge is Chromium, so is Brave. I do use Opera on occasion as well. Browser engine diversity is so important, I hate what the zilla Ceo has done (or not done) but man, if you had told me a few years ago an ad comp was in control of the entire browser eco. I would have lol

Mozilla's revenue comes almost entirely from Google, so they depend almost entirety on targeted advertising too.

While that is true, in theory if Google asked mozilla to make the kind of changes google was making to destroy ublock origin, they wouldn't be able to do that and retain the smaller market share. My problem is the monopoly not their parasitic status.

I'm concerned about the homogeny of browsers. Safari hasn't been cross-platform in years & even Edge is now Chromium-based. That leaves just Firefox. *Everything else* is Chromium.
