This is a huge misstep. I've been using youtube-dl for years to play media using my local player when I've had issues playing the content online. This includes when I was a student to fetch lectures for watching without great internet connectivity.

In the emulation community it was known forever that you don't upload copyrighted material to your repos. In this case the intent was made clear in the unit tests. Best rebuild that tool as a set of independent tools so one can chain them together.

That's right, they didn't do that. But there are plenty of options to minimize the attack surface here.
