i'm currently experiencing one of the most cursed computer problems i've ever seen if i plug a type-C cable into my laptop and /leave the other end disconnected/, then for some reason, when i type on the laptop keyboard fast enough, every other keypress is skipped

I still have issues with USB-C causing my workstation to lock up completely when plugging in phones, unplugging them, or when they boot up and start trying to interact over USB-C. I've sometimes wasted substantial time due to this happening at the most inopportune moments.

I've started to learn that it's a bad idea to do anything with USB-C unless I've prepared for a kernel panic / lockup. It happens maybe only 1/100 times but with how many times I have to switch between different phones and reboot them that's really quite a lot.

USB-C also seems to cause problems with my non-USB-C devices too. I have a variant of this to switch my keyboard + mouse between my Linux workstation and Windows desktop: amazon.ca/UGREEN-Selecto If there's a USB-C device plugged in to the workstation, switching can lock it up.

btw if you think this is a linux-related problem: sometimes when you plug a type-C device into a Windows machine it bugchecks. i've been told that in a checked build it *never* succeeds, which is impressive

It doesn't have a USB-C port so it doesn't get to do this to me. The only issues that I have with Windows right now are tied to the NVIDIA driver. Every time I switch back over to it and it wakes the monitor, it discovers that there's a monitor attached with DisplayPort sound.

It tends to cause audio problems and every single time Discord *partially* switches over to using the new audio device which causes me a lot of confusion. I had to unmute the monitor speakers (which I never use) so that I can easily tell when this starts going wrong.

I used to run games on Linux when they either had native support, but I stopped bothering with that when I switched to 2x 4k monitors and it's also nice to have one computer (Linux) strictly for work and the other one as my personal desktop.
