you know, it's pretty stupid that i can spend several hours figuring out how to run a custom ROM with a locked bootloader & i can't use Google Pay, but my cat, who has a single braincell and can enable MagiskHide with it, can use it just fine

i love how Google allows you to choose between working [third party] app data backup, and Google Pay working. it's great, to me

yep
i won't use MagiskHide or something like it myself for mostly aesthetic reasons but i'd absolutely encourage everyone else who understands the caveats

Being able to do that is rapidly fading away as hardware-based attestation gets adopted by SafetyNet. It's only partially adopted: only used for certain devices, which greatly weakens it in general, and they don't do a good job of restricting that per-device-variant right now.

Not that far away from SafetyNet being able to hard fail on hardware attestation failure on any modern devices, and then eventually on all supported devices. Every device launched with Android 8+ was required to support it. Some were non-compliant so it was broken - but very few.
