Their implementation is invasive and makes no sense.
Telepresence is a useful concept but it's not what they've done. Consider a design where each person that isn't physically present gets their own screen and camera they can remotely control. Not what this feature does though.

From reading support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/artic it sounds like they designed this for managers with personality disorders. Intended use case seems to be the meeting host adjusting cameras to more correctly point at people's faces or something like that. It seems like a creepy feature to me.

It sounds like if you're using it as part of an organization or group, the administrator can change all of these settings for you and force those changes on you. They can toggle on this feature for everyone and then start creepily adjusting their cameras as the meeting host.
