Don't try to get information on privacy and security from people likely more ignorant about it than yourself. Users on Reddit often pretend to be experts on topics they're totally ignorant about yet people fall for it and create a bunch of different misinformation echo chambers.

As with other topics, get your information from experts. Skip the middlemen. That doesn't mean credentialism but rather finding people that are well informed, aware of the limits of their knowledge and who express nuanced opinions. They should be clear about what they don't know.

Replying to
It's important for people to make retractions/corrections when they make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, especially outside their area of expertise. Over time following someone here, you figure out how reliable they are and when to pay attention and listen to their expertise.
