It's now possible to sponsor my development work through GitHub Sponsors: github.com/users/thesting. I've currently only added a $5/month tier, but I'll consider adding more. In the short term, this is a good way to contribute money due to GitHub temporarily matching donations.

GitHub will match 100% of donations during the first year, up to a maximum of $5000. Unfortunately, I don't think this will be a good approach in the long term because GitHub has set it up in a way that they're paying out business income and turning donations into taxable income.

In Canada, donations supporting my open source work are not usually taxable as long as nothing is provided in exchange for the donation beyond a thank you or basic public credit. GitHub Sponsors conforms to that, but GitHub's involvement is such that it will be taxable income.
