I increasingly need to use quotes around individual terms to get it to use them unaltered rather than different words with similar spellings or synonyms of the same word. Using - to omit results matching a term still works too but they removed some things I used to use before.
Using asterisks is also really helpful to get it to look for a similar sentence with varying words in the middle, instead of treating the search terms as independent keywords. I need to coerce it into acting more stupidly far more often now but when I do the results are fine.

They used to allow +some +search +terms to force exact matches for those but now you need to do "some" "search" "terms" because they removed +. Used to have other assorted operators and ways of expressing things. Mostly gone and replaced with overly clever language processing.
