WhatsApp works properly on GrapheneOS including end-to-end encryption. I don't recommend using it but you are better off running it on GrapheneOS than AOSP or the stock OS. Signal has comparable functionality / usability with better privacy / security and there are other options.

Like Signal, WhatsApp fully supports alternative Android compatible operating systems, and like Signal, the project clearly has a negative attitude towards them. I understand where this comes from, but I'd appreciate it if they wouldn't generalize and spread more misinformation.

Yeah, I know what they're saying, but other people misinterpreted it and now this creates misinformation that I need to spend time correcting. Of course, as usual, I expect people will leave up the tweets spreading misinformation instead of taking them down and correcting it.

One more manufactured mini-scandal based on misinformation. There's a whole lot to criticize about WhatsApp without resorting to misinformation. It's also just amplifying the kind of damage that WhatsApp was doing with their lazy / inaccurate FAQ in the first place. It sucks.
