It's a big part of what we do in Canada: canada.ca/en/immigration. Here's the basic points system, but there's more to it than this: canada.ca/en/immigration. It's very explicitly designed around treating immigration as a resource to be exploited / managed for maximum benefit.

Bringing over immediate and extended family is a bigger part of it too, and rarely portrayed as a bad thing like US politics. It's all very shamelessly designed around economics and trying to ensure success by not having immigrants end up with a low income / standard of living.

I live in Toronto, where half of immigrants to Canada end up, so that's the norm. Not being around diverse cultures would be strange, and so would having anti-immigrant and racist messaging as part of mainstream politics. US politics are surreal, whether it's this or health care.
