What this calls “leaping” is my main way of navigating in Vim. It’s nothing more than a fancy name for Cmd-F, but used constantly as an alternative to the mouse or arrow keys for navigation; most programs’ find dialogs are way too obtrusive and slow for that.

I do something like that, but I remapped half-page moves to Ctrl-K/Ctrl-J, and mapped 5 line moves to Shift-K/Shift-J. That way I can easily switch between different movement speeds (when I’m not searching, that is).
