It's similar in that it's an open source mobile OS avoiding privacy invasive features and services. GrapheneOS is focused on developing privacy and security enhancements beyond the status quo baseline which is a distinction. They may want to include a portion of those changes.

Likely not the more advanced hardening though, just some of the privacy enhancements. CalyxOS preserves the baseline security including full verified boot and the overall security model including strict application sandboxing and SELinux policies, etc. unlike other alternatives.
