Once a year I take my iPhone out of its case and am shocked by the amazing combination of slippery and fragile. One would be an achievement. The two together is genius.

Pixel 3a has a plastic back instead which they managed to give almost exactly the same look and feel as the glass back. It's only really noticeable when picking up an idle device because the plastic back doesn't feel as cold. Need to look fairly closely to see a difference...

Not really sure why making it far more fragile by using a glass back / sides is associated with a device being more premium. The Pixel 3a plastic doesn't make the device look or feel any less premium. I think most people would be hard pressed to identify the different material.

If you come across a Pixel 3a, compare it to your phone and I think you'll be shocked by how similar they made it. Both of them have a coating on top of the glass / plastic which makes it look and feels nearly identical. Metal was nicer but they switched for wireless charging.
Making phones out of glass is a joke. It makes the phone heavier and colder to the touch, which apparently makes it premium. Maybe making the device significantly more fragile is part of making people consider it more premium since they're so much more terrified of breaking it.
