This is so deceptive. When you "disable" WiFi and Bluetooth in iOS Control Center and they gray out, they're technically still enabled. Even with Airplane Mode on, your device continues to transmit and your name can even be discovered nearby via AirDrop!

> is this the case of the Android devices Turning them off in the Android Open Source Project disables them, including the stock OS on Google devices built from the source tree. Turning off the optional Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning options keeps the radios disabled too.

The same applies to airplane mode. It turns off all these radios, but the main purpose is to disable the cellular radio. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. can optionally be enabled again after turning on airplane mode. These features do all work properly in AOSP and on Google's devices.
