How long until high res displays get software to finally remove the hell that is subpixel color fringing?

It's not used on macOS, iOS or on Android by default.
I don't find it noticeable with high quality fonts and full hinting with FreeType's lcdlight filter:

It's necessarily noticeable and hideous, and ruins your screenshots by making them device-dependent.

I'd rather just have a high density screen for my desktop, but it's not really an option. I currently use a 27 inch 4k monitor, and fonts are definitely significantly clearer and easier to read. I don't really notice subpixel rendering but it also doesn't help as much anyway.
