I would avoid CopperheadOS. The lone developer who worked on it left after a legal spat with the owner....

It won't be closely tied to any companies again, and they won't be trusted to run any of the infrastructure. Owning and controlling my work was an explicit condition for my work at Copperhead, but that agreement was discarded as soon as it wasn't convenient for earning money.

Multiple companies and organizations supporting it alongside donations from individuals, which is how I've been able to continue it as full-time work. It's also collaborating with CalyxOS (calyxos.org) which will soon be the 2nd non-stock OS supported by Auditor.
