First-person adventure time: I’ve been cutting the tech giants out of my life one by one.

Because I’m a masochist, I started with the company I thought would be the most painful: Amazon. It was more than a boycott, built me a custom VPN to block all things Amazon, including all sites hosted on AWS. gizmodo.com/i-tried-to-blo

In the second week of my tech giant blockade, I cut Facebook out of my life. I thought it would be a relief because it’s f***ing Facebook, but I really missed it.

It was easy technically to block Facebook because it doesn’t run the web like Amazon’s AWS, but FB's trackers are everywhere, including 'Pixel,' which tracks products you look at so companies can show you ads for those products on FB/Instagram.

I've blocked Amazon. I've blocked Facebook. Now, it's Google's turn. Cutting Google from my life changed everything:

The adventure/nightmare of abandoning the tech giants continues. This episode is about blocking Microsoft, which was deceptively easy, and provided an occasion to dig into some good 90s tech history:

It's too bad no one mentioned to you! While it uses Google hardware (Pixel) it de-Googleizes the OS and gives you access to apps developed by the Free Software community that are often drop in replacements for 'app store' tools

Copperhead has some big problems. could explain more but the current company is the shell of what it once was. I wouldn't let it anywhere near my device.

It had to let an employee go for reasons and is back on its feet again from what I know. I wouldn't believe everything you read on Reddit

CopperheadOS hasn't had full security updates since August 2018. It doesn't even have August 2018 patch level and is misleading users with an inaccurate patch level field just like other sketchy ROMs. It hasn't been updated to Android 9 which is a big deal for privacy/security.
You're misleading people about what happened and supporting someone incredibly dishonest and abusive that has misled you and others about what happened. It reflects very poorly on you to support someone that is widely known by the security community to be an abusive charlatan.

James stealing donations sent to support my work is borderline criminal and completely unethical. Several people asked for thousands of dollars in donations to be either returned or passed along where they were intended to go. Says a lot about your character if you support that.
