I'm almost through Compatibility Test Suite testing for Android 9 with the new hardened malloc implementation integrated (github.com/AndroidHardeni). There are a dozen or so latent memory corruption bugs that have been uncovered and need to be fixed. It's really not that bad now.

CTS is a very broad test suite. You can see that from the list of modules, many of which have thousands of tests and can take hours to run: gist.github.com/thestinger/946. As a whole, CTS testing takes at least a day and there's also the VTS for kernel / userspace driver support, etc.

It can't be a tier 1 supported device due to fundamental lack of important hardware / firmware security features and likely further lack of support with an alternate OS. It also lacks Treble and that means it would likely be impractical to support in a clean, very uninvasive way.

Thanks, going to upgrade after first of the year. I'll follow and see which device is the best. From what I've read I think you love the Pixel 3.
