OMG, does anyone have a suggested keyboard for Android? The default that comes with my 3XL is absolutely terrible.

I'm rather a fan of Swype, but it depends what you prefer and need it for. Hacker's keyboard is pretty good for shell work etc.

Yeah, not a fan of Swype. Don't like dragging my finger on the screen. I'll have to check it out. Now that I've enabled long press which was buried in prefs not easy to get to, it's better.

I found Swype back when I was on Nokia series 60. I spent an hour or so writing continously to give the idea a proper try before deciding it was stupid. I was way faster at writing with Swype after about forty minutes or so. I do recommend taking the time to learn it.

Gboard has the swipe feature enabled by default, so it's already there in the default configuration without switching keyboards. It had the feature back when it was called Google Keyboard too, including when it was only a small set of extensions to the open source AOSP keyboard.

They never ended up open sourcing the library for mapping swipe patterns to words, but the original high-level implementation was part of the AOSP keyboard. It's been around for a long time now since they forked away from AOSP keyboard and stopped working on it several years ago.
