Interesting question. It says it's protected by the password. If you reset the password, do you lose you old backups? Or are they magically reencrypted to the new one? If the latter, can govt force a reset of the password to access the backup?

Good news is that this appears to be documented. There this article: google.com/amp/s/thehacke and there is a link to Google's blog post, and that has a link to NCC Groups evaluation that I'm reading now. Looks like if you have a modern phone w/ Titan, you're good.

So, this is good going forward, but helps me in no way of trying to move my data from my old phone to the new one. Currently my old phone hangs when trying to transfer data to the new one.

Yep, done that. Hard to do a restore w/o a USB A to USB C cable though. 😛 Cable is on order and should arrive Wednesday.
