I'd appreciate it if you would stop repeatedly misrepresenting my statements. The entire point I was making is that many of the non-AOSP and even non-OS components have serious vulnerabilities and also need security updates. This is yet another example of those vulnerabilities.

A Nexus 5 is incredibly insecure not because it is old but because it isn't receiving proper support anymore. If they supported devices for 10 years, it would still be receiving fixes for newly discovered vulnerabilities today. It could receive a subset of new mitigations too.

Some security improvements are tied to new hardware. A security update can't fix the Nexus 5 lacking verified boot or being extremely vulnerable to rowhammer. It also compared less favourably to iPhone security at the time than a current generation Pixel does today.
