Intel has been dropping it from lots of their CPUs. They even started releasing high-end i7 branded CPUs without it present: ark.intel.com/products/18660. Some still have it and I don't think dropping it is due to security reasons. It won't exist on the vast majority of consumer CPUs.

I have a lot of workloads where I get slightly better performance with it, but they could potentially be providing more performance by dropping it from the hardware and using the resources / complexity for something else like a larger L1 cache and TLB.
