If you want to use a phone for 5-6 years while retaining a decent level of security, buy an iPhone XR. You don't have other options. Please stop using insecure old Android phones and don't bother pretending that ROMs unable to ship full security updates change that situation...

I still had a Nexus 5 in reasonable shape but threw it out because I have no use for a totally insecure device and it wasn't worth replacing the battery. My Nexus 5X and 6P are working fine and the batteries are still decent but they're about to reach the 3 year end-of-life.

I switched to a new phone every year so the older devices didn't get physically worn out, but they've gotten far more usage and strain than most people's devices due to using them extensively for security research often involving running demanding tests for many hours at a time.
