If you want to use a phone for 5-6 years while retaining a decent level of security, buy an iPhone XR. You don't have other options. Please stop using insecure old Android phones and don't bother pretending that ROMs unable to ship full security updates change that situation...

I'm quite aware. Android security updates are monthly, so quarterly updates are not acceptable. The tweet also wasn't about whether devices receive security updates for a couple years. A Samsung phone also isn't as secure as a Pixel phone, as I mention:

Other Android phones don't offer the same security as a Pixel, even among those shipping monthly security updates reliably. They don't include all of the software and hardware security features. Only Essential cared enough to offer something comparable and stopped making phones.

Yes, it's more secure than an iPhone 6+ due to hardware / firmware security improvements, but it wasn't what I was talking about. I was simply stating that if you're going to use a phone for 5-6 years current generation iPhones are the only ones likely to be supported by the end.
