If you want to use a phone for 5-6 years while retaining a decent level of security, buy an iPhone XR. You don't have other options. Please stop using insecure old Android phones and don't bother pretending that ROMs unable to ship full security updates change that situation...

Apple provides updates for 5-6 years from release. A Pixel has comparable security (weaker in some areas, stronger in others) but Google still only guarantees 3 years of security updates and their track record with Nexus has been dropping support as soon as their guarantee ends.

If people are going to use the device for 5-6 years, an iPhone XR is the only device likely to remain supported. It will eventually have support dropped and people should buy another supported phone.

New hardware generations usually bring important security improvements but updating yearly is impractical for most people. I'm not suggesting that people actually use a phone for 5 years, but if they are going to do that, there aren't really any viable options other than iPhones.
