It's very thoughtful of Toronto Hydro to help calibrate my APC UPS for the newly added external battery pack. It still has a pessimistic estimate based on previous outages when it only had the internal batteries.

I've had no issues so far with the BR1500G. I bought it specifically because it's a passive UPS with solid passive voltage regulation, so it doesn't waste significant energy or create noise when it isn't charging or providing power in an outage.

Active UPS would be much worse for my needs and would cost a lot more. I have a high end PSU with a 10 year warranty anyway. The PSU is completely quiet too since it's very efficient (80 Plus Titanium) so it doesn't generate enough heat to need the fan.

I care a lot about avoiding noise since it distracts me. I only have Noctua fans in my workstation which are nearly silent during regular use and not loud under full load. There are 2x 140mm that came with the NH-D15 CPU cooler, an 120mm exhaust (NF-S12A) and intake (NF-P12).
