Why / ? It's a transcriptionally unique tissue (see PCA from mouse cell atlas data below), many tissue specific genes & male sex-chrom inactivation. It's also important for fertility, evolution and genetic diversity (due to recombination & independent assortment)

A nice radial array in this cell. Microtubules labeled by DCX-GFP, and growing ends of MTs labelled by EB1-mCherry, , , ,

So - we might have the entirely weird, unscientific world where one bans making more precise, less unforseen side effects, indistinguishable from "traditional" approaches because (basically) it involves modern genetics, but continues to allow old, clumsy, radiation based schemes

This makes me reflect: I have never had data or code peer-reviewed, except in data articles, even though the data and the code are supposedly what give credence to my claims. Instead, what is reviewed is the manuscript containing my narrative interpretation of the results (2/n)

With we're happy to release the UCSC Repeat Browser, a tool we've been using internally to analyze repetitive elements in human and primate genomes. We use it to examine conflict between KRAB Zinc Finger Proteins and LINE-1 elements.

Applications open for the Wellcome Trust PhD programme in Genomic Medicine and Statistics at Oxford. I did this programme and can say Oxford is undoubtedly one of the best places in the world to study genomics:

Taking a longterm view - a lesson for research investment (thanks to et al): 4 yrs from proposal to 1st participant; 8 yrs to full enrolment; 13 yrs to 1st publications; ~20 yrs to an explosion of scientific discovery

Our work on a new source of sperm heterogeneity is finally up on biorxiv: Bottom line, we think we've found a set of mammalian genes enabling natural selection between sperm that is far more prominent than we guessed. Tweet summary to follow:

New work with , , and available in preprint! We present some PCA-related analyses (mostly in the ), some pitfalls associated with these analyses, and (very) efficient implementations of solutions. --> thread 1/n

Wow. Level: Outrageous. Paper states that patient got cured from his skin lesions. Left: before treatment. Right: 6 months after treatment. Published in Int J Oral Maxillofac Surg. HT: What do y'all think?

Another ZCWPW1 paper , here from the Liu group, has hit biorXiv! That makes 3 in the last fortnight, with our preprint and the preprint . Hopefully this gene is feeling properly loved at last.
