Why are garden centres & diy shops open. Surely they are non-essential. Nowhere near a lockdown at present

DIY shops are only non-essential if nothing breaks in anyones' homes.

Agreed re schools but EVERYTHING except food shops should close now. In our high street the only shops closed are clothes ones. Anything that sells even a bar of chocolate has deemed itself essential. Its a joke.

Surely at this point we should have some idea what is driving transmission and will have an impact. I would speculate that Zoos are not major vectors here - given outdoors and wide open spaces. Unlike you know having 30 kids from different households in a single room.

It was explained by a professor here like someone smoking in a pub in the old days. Smoke cloud even if only one person in the pub is smoking. So when pubs and restaurants say we've done everything unfortunately once people take their masks off it hangs in the airpic.twitter.com/IlcbfSHbLY

November wasn’t really a ‘lockdown’ though was it?

The law was almost identical to March. The difference was companies that chose to close in the first lockdown (e.g. McDonald's, which has always been allowed to open for takeaway) didn't do that this time.
