My trip to visit calico pointed out this interesting paper reducing the genetic estimate of longevity (below the paltry 15%) due to partner effects; they say assortative partner choice but I think it might well be spouse influenced health influence.

The cradle of the ancestors of Bantu-speaking peoples does not necessarily corresponds to the cradle of Bantu languages. Interesting study!

Proud to share the latest by ! She found a surprising pattern that may have important implications for precision medicine in admixed populations. In Mexican Americans, Native American ancestry increased by ~20% over a 50yr period during the last centry.

Our new study is out in ! We study patterns of Neandertal and Denisova introgression within gene networks, and we propose a test to detect cointrogressed variants at the gene set level.

People worry about how much land we'd need to supply the US with clean energy. Well, and I have independently calculated it and we both come up with something roughly comparable to the area we currently use for maple syrup or golf. A square about 100-120 miles per side.

Recombination creates 2.5 times more diversity than mutations in P. aeruginosa populations. Also, P. aeruginosa two main groups (A and B) and their persistence in different ecological niches can be related to carrying highly specific exoU or exoS genes.

It's amazing how some rivers as genetic barriers (soft barriers obviously) are observed across different studies. (left this study on Dutch population structure using EEMS, right our cluster after FineStructure on a French population).
