As we remember the nearly 3,000 individuals who lost their lives 20 years ago on 9/11, we are reminded of why we went into Afghanistan in the first place: to bring justice to those who attacked us and see to it that it would never happen again. We achieved those objectives.

20 years is a lifetime. I hugged my baby daughter that day and told her we’d make the world better, safer, more just. The grief & sadness are still intense, as is the gratitude for the brave first responders, heroes of Flt 93, &all who gave & helped that day &beyond.

At on 9/11, my phone started to ring. First, the Canadian Ambassador, David Wright. Then the British, German, Polish, French, Italian. “We’re with you”. “How can we help?” “We should invoke Article 5”. “We’ll stand together”. How fortunate to have such friends.
