2. I know something about his record in this area. I served with him when he was Dep Asst Sec of Defense for the Middle East, & later National Security Adviser for then-VP Biden. I was Senior Director for the Middle East at the NSC & then Ambassador to Israel during this period.

3. As DASD Colin traveled 13 times to Israel in 3 years-& surely hosted Israeli officials in DC at least 2X as often-to strengthen bilat defense ties. Colin did critical work during that period to ensure Israel's qualitative military edge as arms sales to the Gulf were finalized.

4. When Israel needed an answer to Hamas rockets launched from Gaza in 2009, Colin helped unlock a languishing proposal for US funding for Iron Dome and brought it to us at the WH. In the decade since, having intercepted over 2,000 rockets, Iron Dome has saved countless lives.

5. As the US ramped up sanctions against Iran in 2009-2011, it was critical to also ensure there was a credible US military option to prevent an Iranian nuclear weapons. Colin coordinated that effort, from US force posture, to special munitions, to regional missile defense.

6. At the White House working for then-VP Biden in 2016, Colin was a critical voice arguing for completion of the $38 billion Memorandum of Understanding for US military assistance to Israel, which was signed two months before the 2016 election.

7. More than these achievements, I've seen Colin during consultations w/Israeli colleagues. There's deep mutual respect, born of Colin's expertise, collegiality, &deep personal commitment to ensuring Israel's security &a close US-Israel partnership, which benefits both countries.

8. Stories circulating to the contrary distort his record and/or are an attempt to refight longstanding disagreements over the Iran nuclear deal. Those disagreements are legitimate, but a lousy basis to deprive POTUS of one of the top national security advisers he depends on.

9. I hope Senators on the Armed Services Committee (vote is on Tuesday) and in the full Senate will consider Colin's deep qualifications as a national security professional, his many accomplishments (which extend far beyond Israel), and his actual record, not the distortions.
