In mid-1977, an Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty was “impossible”. Less than 2 years later it was reality. What made it happen? Leadership. Sadat and Begin (and Carter) recalculated interests, built trust, took risks, and made it possible. 40 years of peace. Long may it reign.pic.twitter.com/VlfB728R5B

If anyone tells you a negotiated two-state solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is impossible, here’s your answer. Leadership. The right leaders, at the right time, can surprise the world, surprise themselves, and make the impossible possible.

        The comparison is nonsensical.

Sadly, the rest of the Arab world, with the honorable exception of King Hussein of Jordan, took one look at what happened to Sadat 2 years after Camp David and said, "no thanks!"

It wouldn't work because of the close proximity. Cold peace wouldn't work over here. בקיצור זה בלאגן. למה לא אוגנדה. Only heavy bribery to a leader would work. The world should not give money to them while they are preaching hate.

It’s infuriating when Obama admin-era officials say “take risks” or “be courageous”. As though Israelis have not done so since oslo in attempts to make peace and been met with buses blowing up. It wouldn’t be so easy to say if your kids were in the line of fire.

I didn't see where this was directed exclusively at Israel. In fact, I read it the other way around...and that's 100% correct. The Palestinians have been betrayed and robbed by their leaders for decades. And let's also be honest...Netanyahu is a mess.

I’ve said for year the only end of conflict recipe is three words: “Palestinian Anwar Sadat”
