5. Trump didn't get it. Or did. But it gets worse. Russian media reported that one of the targets of the probe suggested by Putin is none other than @McFaul. Putin has always hated McFaul, who he viewed, erroneously, as trying to engineer a revolution & ensure Putin's overthrow.
6. Under no circumstances can the US government permit, or even contemplate, making those who have served the US government faithfully available to the spurious "investigations" of our adversaries. They owe it to past, current, and future US officials to uphold that principle.
7. The WH & @SecPompeo need to shut this down now. Immediately. They need to make clear that there will be no cooperation with Putin's transparent intel op disguised as mutual aid to parallel investigations & no exposing @McFaul or other USG officials to Russian questioning.

One can argue that this sort of defense putting faithful patriots like @McFaul on the same level as Kissinger or Cheney is offensive. Protective norms without Red Lines which remove such protection make a mockery of our collective values.

This is completely outrageous. But let's note--the government has no way to compel a private citizen to answer questions of a foreign government, anyway. All Putin could do was charge people and seek their extradition. And that would provoke an insane court battle.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders so easily said "he's checking with his team and will let you know", as if it is business as usual. Everyday we have a dictator asked for us to turn over an ambassador, right? They may as well just hoist the Russian flag above the White House.
An administration that would commit to that should be accused of Treason.

Omg! Trump is nuts! McFaul has served our country for many years. He's carried the torch, raised the flag, and stood firmly for the USA. Putin should never receive access to any patriots for any reason. Putin's a monster. Trump's a mobster. Nobody gets access to McFaul! Period.
