Breaking: A district court enjoined Tennessee's unreasonable "first-time voter" restriction that didn't allow qualified absentee voters to vote by mail if its their 1st time voting in the jurisdiction. This would have harmed folks affected by COVID-19, students, & many others.
This is a big deal. @aclutn & others won a crucial victory earlier this summer expanding absentee voting eligibility in light of COVID-19. But this restriction locked out first-time voters from the benefit of that decision. Now, new voters can safely vote from home.
How long until scotus stays it?
Is there any way the decision could change between now and November 3rd?
The court of appeals could stay (aka pause) the order during appeal. But it's not automatic.
