    Amazing how people designing VR interfaces are still fundamentally working in 2D. I constantly see fake 3D techniques like drop shadows and parallax which are broken because their fake depth is betrayed by true 3D. In a VR headset, real depth is another dimension for hierarchy!

    I've been making time to play with 3d, shaders, and generative art, and.. 🎉I'm horrible, and I love it! New problem spaces are great, but chiefly, I'm planning a few courses & workshops, and it's so important for me to remember how overwhelming it can be to learn something new

    While working on BL3 I accidentally knocked over a folding spice rack. The sound of the jars sort of reminded me of grenades. I put that spice rack through its paces to record and design the reload parts for the Torgue Shotgun with the belt magazine type.

    I have 20 Expo Plus passes to give away for GDC, for POC, women, and LGBTQ folk, especially those who can't afford to attend otherwise. The drive is to see more new faces at GDC, which is March 18-22. Apply via this google form, and please RT/spread!

    Periodic Reminder: When debugging, you must first accept that something you believe is true is not true. If everything you believed about this system were true, it would work. It doesn't, so you're wrong about something. This is a surprisingly common stumbling block for devs.

    We need as many on-ramps for beginners as possible. ~8 years ago Twine got so many people into making interactive things. ~25 years ago Doom did similar. You didn't need anyone's permission to tinker with these; you weren't forced to think of that tinkering in business/non terms.

    After having their US Visas rejected, these two gamedevs are not able to attend GDC on the scholarships that they won. Instead, they made a game about repairing the broken Visa application process. Maybe it's time for GDC elsewhere than the US.
