Angelo: Meron ngayon diffused influencers na parang celebrities, pero actually ang sinasakyan nila ay para mapasok nila and maikalat nila ang disinformation. Ito yung paunti-unti pero naiipon. Kinoconsume natin ang information nila pero hindi natin alam na mali na pala.
Francis Allan Angelo, Daily Guardian EIC, shares his insights on Ong, Tapsell, and Curato's research on digital disinformation and the midterm polls (2019).
Quilaton-Tambiga: Our community saw community media as just gossip mongering. This is truly a reflection of how much we value democracy and freedom of expression and of the oppressed.
Clavecillas on how LGUs should fight disinfo: Maximize use of tri-media (print, radio, TV) and social media in info dissemination. Explain policies in layman's terms. Prioritize interests of people. Do fact-checking before sharing info.
Clavecillas: Mag-ingat sa pag-share at pag-post ng mga CTTO posts kasi hindi natin alam ang totong information sa likod ng litrato. Mag-ingat tayo kay CTTO lalo na ‘pag hindi natin alam ang source.
Clavecillas: ‘Pag may pumapasok sa amin na photos, hindi puwedeng ilabas agad. You have to verify the photo, call the author and interview, before you publish it.
Clavecillas cites harassment of Covid-19 patients as example of how news agencies and LGUs collaborate set up a campaign against discrimination of patients.
Clavecillas: We can be a tool against fake news and disinfo. It helps that local news stations have a big following which allows the right info to reach more people.
Clavecillas: We go the actual scene to verify especially with disinformation happening on social media. We provide actual interviews with resource persons. We are more familiar with our area of responsibility -- people, culture, geographic locations. It becomes advantageous.
Clavecillas: Regional news ensures that data and facts reported are verified. The region plays an important role in verifying local facts and info before they are published at the national level.
Clavecillas: Most of the major media platforms are based in Metro Manila or NCR. Kailangan nila ng regional news arm para may regional news content sila.
Starting off the forum, Alviola answers why misinformation might be more rampant in a region.

Burgos: Community media are dependent on ads. Mainly coming from politicians. It's hard to be independent for community press, especially with safety concerns. They are also easily targeted. | via
