Ugh. People are making fun of this girl because, I guess, she *sounds* vapid, but the truth is, she's asking genuinely intellectually curious questions about math! Calculus *IS* abstract! And higher level-math isn't rooted in the tangible world. These are great questions to ask! https://twitter.com/aIeturner/status/1298372968838508546 …

it's one of the worst elements of the internet that an anonymous teenage girl will be publicly ridiculed by hundreds of thousands of strangers for whatever random algorithmic reason. And again: these are GOOD QUESTIONS FOR A HIGH SCHOOL KID TO ASK!https://twitter.com/graciegcunning/status/1298804338727489536 …

everyone dunking on this girl for asking about how mathematicians came up with their ideas should have to explain the origin of the idea, and then the proof behind L'Hôpital's rule in layman's terms easy enough for a 16 year old to understand.

Those are valid questions. And this is in my opinion the failing the way we teach history or any subject. We dont know the “why” of things. And honestly the answer is algebra is i have 12 apples and i need 24 how many do i need to add? 12+X=24 That’s the foundation.

I can't imagine listening to the words she's saying and thinking that she's dumb. Like, how many of the people laughing at ICP and "fucking magnets" could actually tell you how magnets worked, yknow? I can drive a car, but I don't know the science/math behind how it works.

Judging someone for not having the exact same set of knowledge that you do is such a weird, myopic gatekeeping flex. They probably know a bunch of things you don't, and aren't judging you for it.
