My kid started Jr. High last week. He couldn't stop talking about how much he loved his History teacher.
This afternoon we found him in tears, overcome by stress and self-doubt. His grade for his first short answer homework: 50/100.

Ironically this is the kind of thing we're also trying to teach our children who had attended public school for a couple of years. They've just got this weird idea that they "just need to get it done!" Look kid, we don't care if it takes you 5 minutes or 5 hours - learn the why

Well, he learned that algorithms evaluating human behavior are full of shit in at least some cases, and he may well generalize from the experience and not be wrong that often.

Learning to game algorithms is going to be a new life skill. I hope old ones like writing as communication don't get lost. Both are important, although it's sad that the teacher didn't explicitly state (realize?) the true Today I Learned goal here. Thanks for sharing.
