We’ve all got a tragic backstory they’re just on different levels because some of us are living in different genres

i dont know how to write a happy backstory, i've never experienced one so it's just a lot easier to write depressing stories instead,
-
Same. I want to write some, and to have a mix of good and bad backstories for my characters. But I just don't know how to. No matter how much I read up about it and learn about it, I just can't find the words to write something happy. It's an idea I have no understanding of.

Yes indeed, from a person's own perspective at least, there's almost always some tragedy. Plus, conflict is what normally drives a story. You could write about someone who has never experienced adversity and their life is a bowl of cherries, but that's not super interesting.
-
And people hate this, but...conflict gets stuff done. Draws lines in the sand, opens up feelings, forces people to work together... It's not good or bad. It just is.

I know so many aneurotypical people with tragic backstories that I sometimes wonder if “normal” actually exists or if it’s a construct.
-
It's 100% a construct

My backstory is a geek tragedy but I try to write happy backstories, at least ones I want.
